If we’ve said it once we’ve said it a hundred times, HDMI is a tricky beast. The bad news: it’s going to get worse before it gets better. The good news: we’re here to help. With that goal in mind we brought on Atlona’s Commercial Product Manager Bill Schripsema to discuss the evolving landscape of HDMI.

We start off our chat discussing the implications of the HDMI 2.0 specification. As UHD content continues its march into the mainstream bandwidth requirements for digital video signals are increasing dramatically. We discuss how this, amongst other considerations, is driving adoption of the 2.0 specification.

As the title of our episode implies we also spend a good deal of time focusing on HDCP 2.2. Since its inception HDCP has been a thorn in the side of integrators the world over.  The latest iteration will be no exception. This new version, designed specifically to protect UHD content, is a major step forward (or backward depending on your perspective) in copy protection. Bill helps us shine a light on many of the potential “gotchas” of the latest HDCP specification.

Bill has a great deal of knowledge when it comes to all things HDMI. We learned a lot chatting with him and hope you enjoy the show. As always, if you have any thoughts or suggestions feel free to leave them in the comments section below.
